Escola Básica dos 2.º e 3.º Ciclos da Torre, was opened in 1993. It is located in the area of Câmara de Lobos in Madeira Island, Portugal. This area is particularly affected by social and economic inequality. A considerable number of its inhabitants have little instruction /academic qualification and so do the majority of our students’ families. This school year (2022/2023) we have got 473 students, of which 100 are attending the EFA Courses – adult education and training courses.

The Escola Básica dos 2.º e 3.º Ciclos da Torre, through the EFA courses and the Câmara de Lobos City Council, decided to unite and develop the Never to Forget Project (Projeto Nunca Esquecer) in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, which despite being coordinated by a trainer of the EFA courses, it is extended to all students at our school and other schools in the municipality and in the region and also intends to involve the entire educational community.

The Never Forget Project is part of the national program around the memory of the Holocaust, was approved by the Council of Ministers (Resolution No. 51/2020). This program aims to promote initiatives of homage, dissemination and development of study and knowledge on the Holocaust, namely the role assumed by Portuguese who supported victims of the Nazi regime, among which Aristides de Sousa Mendes stands out, as well as Portuguese victims.

Since 2020, we have carried out numerous activities that have involved the entire school community, namely lectures / conferences, training actions for teachers, study visits, exhibitions, reading sessions and viewing of films and documentaries.
